Our Approach to Education

At Vista Nova we believe in a developmental approach to education and rehabilitation with the key to our success lying in early intervention, especially when dealing with physical disabilities.

We follow the mainstream curriculum as closely as possible with adaptations to suit the needs of our learners throughout our 4 learning phases namely:

  • Pre-Primary (3 years old to Grade R)
  • Foundation (Grade 1- 3)
  • Intermediate (Grade 4 – 6 and Grade 7)
  • High School (Grade 8-12)

Our team of quality health and education specialists prepare a customised treatment / education program for each leaner. Programs are reviewed and adjusted periodically as each learner is assessed on a continual basis.

Individual programs may include:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and Language development
  • Perceptual skills
  • Fine and Gross Motor Co-ordination
  • Cognitive, social and emotional skills development

All our learners are also provided with exposure to music, arts and various sports, whilst formal learning activities are complemented with outings, visiting speakers and community involvement activities to ensure that a balanced, holistic education is provided.

Enrichment

Due to a variety of reasons such as the severity of their disability, some of our learners struggle to cope with the pace and demand of our classes and need to be placed in our enrichment classes.

In these classes they continue to enjoy individualised teaching methods designed to allow the child to develop and progress at their own pace with a great deal of practical activity and vocational training.
